Next session: September 29-December 14, 2010
The MD Clinical Acupuncture Program is a 12 week course for MDs, DOs, and DMDs who have already successfully completed a course in acupuncture for physicians (“Medical Acupuncture” course). This course consists of twelve 5 hour sessions that take place in the Department of Family Medicine outpatient clinic at Boston Medical Center, an urban hospital serving a wide economic and cultural mix of patients. Each session will have one hour of lecture followed by 4 hours of patient treatment time. The focus of this program is clinical, or learning through doing. Participants will receive direct supervision from a licensed acupuncturist. All aspects of treatment, from intake to diagnosis, treatment principles and needling techniques will be covered. As has been done with previous free-care acupuncture clinics at BMC, treatment rooms in the Department of Family Medicine will be allotted one per participant, and patients will be scheduled through the department’s front desk. The program has been accredited by the Boston University School of Medicine, which designates this program for a maximum of 55 AMA PRA Category
1 credit(s), commensurate with the extent of participation and achievement of skills.
